Project 2- Chosen Game

 Upside down downside up;

Upside down downside up is an puzzle strategy game where the player has to navigate their way past a series of obstacles, however all is not as it seems. The screen is split into two sections with the top screen being mirrored directly bellow, with the obstacles not being shown in both, but are still present. The avatar in both screen is essentially one character, as what ever happens to him in one screen will happen in the other.  Therefore the player must utilize both screens in order to pass through the obstacles safely.
The game play is greatly inspired by noitcelfeR  with game play similar to subway surfers the 3D aspect makes the game more challenge

Story

The game begins and u are a monkey attempting to escape from a lab, with the reflected area bellow symbolizing the effects of the testing done on the monkey.

Character Design

I went with a monkey, originality i had decided to base my character on chimpanzee due to the large amount of testing done due to the similar biological makeup. However i decided to add a tail to make the character more recognizable as a monkey.

Environment;

Laboratory has been chosen for the environment  with either a clean, orderly tiled floor, greatly inspired by games like portal and mirror, however occasionally a ruffed up lab would appear, plants growing out of the walls, tiles broken, uncompleted  inspired again, by games like portal 2 and bioshock 2. examples shown bellow.

Game play;

Various obstacles will be featured within the game, such as bridges, holes, obstacles to jump, spikes and creatures (such as lab rats) that would cause the monkey harm is they come in contact. However these obstacles will generally only be shown in one of the states of play, thus causing the player to utilize both screens in order to cross safely i believe it is this feature that will make this an engaging game.

Bellow are some examples of the environment and how to overcome

Proposal;

Project 2 ‘ACORNS’ - Brainstorm

Design a proposal for a relatively contained project, as this will be executed in a 3D engine (Blender) by up to 6 individuals. Populate this document with as many sketches, concept drawings and supporting referenced visual material as possible in order to make a compelling case. This material should also be documented on your blog.

Brainstorm;

Strategy games;
-room with laser which you move around to collect objects
-destroying ever coming enemies <- army game with piviot in the middle//shooting radar
-tower filling with water, time limit for solving puzzles in order to reach top in time.

Survival Game;

-defending games
-protecting something/creature from being eaten/killed
-building defenses
-escorting something to a certain area
-falling down through a maze/well? avoiding objects

-running away from a creature

Digital Pets;
-looking after a creature which evolves depending on care
-battle

Puzzle;
-3D maze/logic maze-switches, keys, transporting, blocking mechanisms
-paradox's
-gravity changes
-falling though puzzle
-little man pushing box's around a maze
-move object around a room// beams momentum
-reflected, mirrored screens

Game inspirations;
-space is key
-worlds hardest game
-noitcelfeR
 -crash bandicoot 1-3
-subway surfers
-portal 2
-bioshock 2
